What is the difference between the Troop-Air Pro Pants and the C-1 Air Pants?
Three key differences: (1) CE Class: Troop-Air Pro is CE AA; C-1 Air is CE Class A. (2) Armor level: Troop-Air Pro includes Level 2 Nucleon Flex Pro knee protectors; C-1 Air includes Level 1 Nucleon Flex Plus. (3) Hip protection: Troop-Air Pro includes Level 1 Nucleon Bio-Flex hip armor as standard; C-1 Air includes no hip protection (optional upgrade only). The Troop-Air Pro is the choice for riders wanting the highest protection in a summer mesh pant; the C-1 Air is the entry-level urban commuting option.
What is Nucleon Bio-Flex and what level of protection does it provide?
Nucleon Bio-Flex is Alpinestars' flexible viscoelastic hip protector. "Viscoelastic" means the material has different stiffness properties at different impact speeds: during normal movement it remains soft and conforms to the hip; under the rapid compression of a crash impact it stiffens and distributes force. The Bio-Flex is CE EN 1621-1:2012 Level 1 certified for hip protection. It is thinner and more comfortable than traditional hard-shell hip armor, making it practical for all-day riding use.
Can the Troop-Air Pro Pants be worn under a waterproof shell?
Yes — the same inner-layer concept as the Troop-Air Pro Jacket applies. In cooler conditions, the Troop-Air Pro Pants can be worn under waterproof riding trousers (e.g., Alpinestars Andes V3 Drystar Pants or Halo Pro Drystar XF Pants), adding Level 2 CE AA certified leg protection to any outer shell without the bulk of a lined textile pant. The slim mesh construction sits flat against the leg and does not impede boot or shoe closure.
Do the Troop-Air Pro Pants work as a system with the Troop-Air Pro Jacket?
Yes. The Troop-Air Pro Jacket and Pants are designed as a matched system: both use 2D Tech Mesh construction, CE AA Class certification, and Level 2 Nucleon Flex Pro armor at the primary impact zones. Worn together, they form a complete CE AA Level 2 protection outfit in a lightweight mesh format — comparable protection architecture to a leather sport suit, for use in summer conditions.
